Robert H. McGuckin III, an expert and pioneering researcher in the fields of U.S. job creation and productivity trends, recently died of neuroendocrine cancer at his home in Alexandria, Virginia. He was 63. McGuckin was director of economic research at The Conference Board and former chief of the Center for Economic Studies at the U.S. Census Bureau. He established one of the first international databases providing comparisons of productivity growth in more than 100 countries. He also oversaw the development of the U.S. Census Bureau/National Science Foundation Research Data Center network. He was an expert on worldwide productivity trends and their effects on living standards.

From 1974 to 1986, McGuckin held a number of positions at the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was involved in the major deregulation cases of the 1980s. Prior to this, he taught economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. McGuckin received his doctorate in economics from the University at Buffalo.

He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren. For more information, visit www.conference-board.org.
