(GelSight: Waltham, MA) -- GelSight, a pioneer in surface analysis technology, has announced the launch of the high-resolution (HR) family of GelSight Modulus lenses, comprising two new 20 mm optical lenses: L2000HR (straight) and L2090HR (90-degree), designed to work with existing Modulus camera bodies. Together with the newly released GelSight Mobile 4.4 software, the new lenses bring laboratory-grade surface and profile roughness measurement directly to the production floor without requiring a new device.

The HR family is not simply a higher-resolution optic. It represents a complete redesign of the optical, illumination, and gel architecture within the Modulus platform, pushing the sensor into a new measurement regime while preserving the handheld, mobile-first form factor that inspectors already rely on. Current Modulus users gain access to full roughness measurement capability with a single lens swap.
The Modulus platform was designed from the ground up as a swappable-optics system. With an SLR-style architecture for industrial metrology, it offers different lenses to extend the platform’s capabilities without requiring a new camera body. The L2000HR and L2090HR take full advantage of this architecture, delivering roughness measurement performance previously confined to laboratory benchtop profilometers. Both lenses achieve surface roughness resolution of 0.2µm–10µm and support the full parameter suite available in GelSight Mobile 4.4.
GelSight now delivers a complete surface metrology toolkit, adding industry-standard profile roughness parameters (Rq, Rp, Rv, Rz, Rt, Rsk, Rku, RSm, Rc, Rmr) and advanced 3D areal texture metrics (Sdq, Sdr, Sds, Ssc, Smr) to enable lab-grade, ISO-aligned surface finish measurement directly at the point of inspection. This release transforms GelSight from defect detection into a portable, quantitative surface analysis platform for manufacturing and field inspection. The L2090 90-degree variant further extends measurement access into confined geometries such as bores, inside diameters, and complex shapes with access constraints that previously required specialized instrumentation or removal of parts for offline analysis.
The HR launch coincides with the release of GelSight Mobile 4.4, which includes full support for the new roughness parameters alongside broader workflow improvements: guided animated calibration for Modulus sensors, enhanced offset output statistics, stacked routines in Operator mode, customizable PDF report templates, and PLY file export for interoperability with CAD and digital quality systems. Together, the HR Modulus hardware and GelSight Mobile 4.4 represent GelSight’s continued investment in a hardware-enabled software platform that adapts to new measurement missions at the speed inspectors need without replacing the device already in their hands.
“The high-resolution lens platform reflects how fast our most innovative customers are moving. They’re solving harder measurement problems in tighter spaces with higher accuracy requirements, and they expect their tools to keep up,” says Youssef Benmokhtar, CEO of GelSight. “The combination of the HR lenses and GelSight Mobile 4.4 shows that the Modulus platform can evolve at the speed of their most demanding inspection missions without asking them to start over.”
The GelSight Modulus L2000HR and L2090HR lenses are available now and are compatible with existing GelSight Modulus camera bodies. GelSight Mobile 4.4 is shipping on systems and available to GelSight users with current software maintenance.
