Biomedical equipment technicians (BMETs) are facing increased workloads and staffing shortages that are expected to get worse as the current workforce retires.

About one-third of healthcare technology management (HTM) professionals are older than 55, putting pressure on health systems to attract the next generation of BMETs. More than 7,000 additional BMETs are needed each year, but BMET programs are graduating fewer than 400 per year.

To address these challenges, health systems should leverage cutting-edge technology to attract BMETs and provide them with a meaningful, fulfilling career.
