DuPont will triple the revenues from its automotive coatings business by the end of this year due, in part, to an aggressive Six Sigma effort, company officials report.

Since consolidating its previous Brazilian coatings operations from a joint operation into a fully DuPont-owned business, the company has moved swiftly to streamline its manufacturing operations and harmonize global technology for greater productivity and customer satisfaction. In addition, the company has more than 20 active Six Sigma projects and reports improved application productivity at 11 manufacturing facilities. Six Sigma projects include advancements in cost-per-unit methods of getting paid for reducing paint application waste, and improving vehicle finish quality.

“The basis for this business success is a work force that is committed to using the Six Sigma methodology to differentiate products, services and work processes in the eyes of our customers,” says Antonio Carlos Oliveira, DuPont Automotive Systems South American business systems director. “We’ve set realistic, clear goals and priorities to intensively link our business plans and critical operating tasks so we can improve our competitive position in the demanding automotive OEM marketplace.”
