TUV SUD America Inc. recently awarded AS9100 certification to Symetrics Industries LLC. The global standard defines quality systems requirements for suppliers to the aerospace industry.

AS9100 includes many requirements of the ISO 9001 standard, along with 80 additional requirements and 18 amplifications for the aerospace business. It assures quality in design, development, production, installation and service, and it standardizes quality management requirements.

“A typical Department of Defense contractor like Symetrics has already addressed many of the key concepts of AS9100 in its existing quality systems,” says Steve Dretzka, Symetrics’ director of quality. “These concepts are not new to us, but are merely tried-and-tested methodologies already in practice here.”

Aerospace contractors are increasingly requiring AS9100 compliance, and being awarded certification is an important milestone for suppliers of aerospace components and systems.
