I’ve now watched every quality management concept I learned during my professional career unfold in my granddaughter’s first five months of life.

As I observed her feeding habits, sleeping routines, health monitoring, and interactions with her environment, I found remarkable similarities to concepts such as standardization, process control, continuous improvement, preventive action, and quality assurance. These observations inspired me to document how quality management principles can be reflected in day-to-day life, including one of life’s most natural processes—a child’s growth.
Observing a newborn
I wrote this after following my granddaughter from birth to the present. The aspects that drew my attention to the similarities to quality processes were:
