S teven Pearlstein, a business columnist for The Washington Post, and others, have written about business leaders’ excessive and shortsighted focus on stock values for shareholders. What about the role of corporate governance boards? Aren’t board members obliged to view company management and performance results in the long term? Aren’t they expected to help ensure their organization’s future sustainability, in part by creating and balancing value for all customers and stakeholders?

As Baldrige winners have affirmed, the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence can be essential to this endeavor, regardless of the sector or size of the organization.
