(The Hydraulic Institute: Parsippany, NJ) --  The Hydraulic Institute (HI) and the Consortium for Energy Efficiency (CEE) announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalize their collaboration in advancing energy efficiency in commercial and industrial pumping systems. The MOU was officially executed July 9, 2025, marking a significant step toward accelerating market adoption of high-efficiency pump technologies.

Under this agreement, HI and CEE will collaborate to support the implementation of the CEE Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Pump Systems Initiative and the HI Energy Rating Program. The two organizations will leverage their respective expertise—HI’s leadership in pump standards and energy ratings, and CEE’s role in energy efficiency program design and market transformation—to improve access to critical efficiency information and promote best practices across the industry.

“Through this partnership, we’re ensuring that industry and efficiency program administrators have a clear, unified source of trusted product performance data,” says Michael Michaud, executive director of the Hydraulic Institute. “We’re proud to work with CEE in building a strong foundation for pump energy efficiency that utilities and consumers across the United States and Canada can rely on.”

Key elements of the collaboration include:
• Maintaining and enhancing the HI Energy Rating Database as the designated CEE C&I Pump Systems Initiative Qualified Products List (QPL)
• Incorporating CEE efficiency specifications into HI’s product database and ensuring timely updates
• Jointly promoting energy-efficient solutions and resources to advance public awareness and adoption
• Safeguarding proprietary and confidential data shared during this collaboration

John Taylor, executive director of CEE, says, “Efficiency programs across the United States and Canada rely on consistent, independent third-party data as the basis for qualified product lists that CEE members reference when implementing and administering programs. This collaboration with HI will strengthen the infrastructure that supports energy-saving investments in pump systems.”
