“Given recent advances in medical care and technologies, as well as all of the health information available to consumers today, it is easy to become overwhelmed,” says Samuel Nussbaum, chief medical officer of WellPoint. “The services provided through ’360 Health’ are member-focused, harnessing the knowledge of thousands of medical professionals, including physicians, nurses and nutritionists.”
A key component of "360 Health" is the personal health record (PHR), the substance of which is owned and managed by WellPoint members. The PHRs are automatically populated by member-provided information, along with claims data received by WellPoint. They can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection, enabling members to track and share their information.
WellPoint has invested nearly $100 million to develop "360 Health" and has drawn extensively from pilot programs initiated by its subsidiary health plans. In pilot programs in New York, group customers achieved a 2:1 return on investment on all employees enrolled in the plan.
