Missouri Health Care Organization Receives Quality Awards

Published: Monday, November 28, 2005 - 22:00

Missouri health care provider SSM Health Care recently received several quality awards. The awards were presented by the Excellence in Missouri Foundation, which administers the Missouri Quality Award and Missouri Team Quality Award programs. SSM St. Joseph Health Center, St. Charles; SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, Lake St. Louis; and St. Joseph Medical Park jointly won a Missouri Quality Award. SSM Health Care-St. Louis won the Missouri Team Quality Award. The foundation also recognized the SSM Information Center for its quality program and team-based structure. The awards were formally presented at a banquet in Osage Beach on Nov. 17.

St. Joseph Health Center, St. Joseph Hospital West and St. Joseph Medical Park received the Missouri Quality Award for the organizationwide alignment of SSM Health Care’s mission (“Through Our Exceptional Health Care Services, We Reveal the Healing Presence of God”), successful continuous-improvement efforts and the implementation of best practices, which pledges that critical patients will be seen within 30 seconds in the emergency room and that all others will be seen within 30 minutes.

SSM Health Care-St. Louis was awarded the Missouri Team Quality Award for its blood-conservation program, which is designed to save as much of a patient’s own blood as possible during surgery or other medical procedures.

“Our strong commitment to quality begins with our mission of providing exceptional health care services and is carried throughout our entire organization,” says Ron Levy, SSM Health Care-St. Louis president and CEO. “Quality-based programs within our organizations are good for our patients, helping us to fulfill our mission.”

SSM Health Care is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. The system owns, manages and is affiliated with 21 acute-care hospitals in three states. The Missouri Quality Award program is modeled on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Since its inception in 1992, 33 Missouri organizations have received the award.
