etrologists employ numerous portable 3D metrology devices and techniques to acquire coordinate data to measure a manufactured article or assembly. There are many variables induced by an operator that can dramatically influence data collection. Although measurement equipment is calibrated to traceable artifacts, the personnel applying those tools have lacked industry-recognized proficiency credentials. Employers have been unable to quantify an employee or a service provider’s knowledge of metrology or their command of industry best practices. With a graying workforce and the rapidly expanding use of 3D metrology by industry, this state of affairs was a growing concern to ISO-certified manufacturers and companies with quality management systems.

Metrology

3D metrology? This is only a specialized feild of demensional metrology. What about PEMEL TMDE Metrology? The feild of metrology covers many displines that this article does not cover. What about certification for all the other for those interested in becoming metrology consultants?
