September APEC Conference to Highlight Energy Management Standardization

(APEC: Singapore) -- On September 13-14, 2011, San Francisco will play host to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Conference on Implementation of Energy Management Standardization. The event will bring together up to 150 participants from the 21 Asia-Pacific member economies to discuss ways in which APEC members can cooperate to implement ISO 50001, the recently released energy management standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

With world energy prices soaring and calls for energy security echoed around the globe, the demand for organizations to manage their energy performance has never been more acute. ISO 50001—"Energy management systems—Requirements with guidance for use," provides organizations with a framework to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs, and improve environmental performance. It is estimated that ISO 50001 has the potential to positively impact up to 60 percent of the world’s energy use. The standard was developed by ISO technical committee (TC) 242—"Energy management," with the chairmanship held by the United States.
