Solectron Corp. recently opened a manufacturing facility in Singapore that will use Six Sigma and lean to produce medical products more efficiently. The plant, called the Singapore Medical Center of Excellence, is located in Chai Chee, Singapore’s “Techno Park.” It’ll use the Solectron Production System, the company’s trademarked name for its lean and Six Sigma-based manufacturing techniques. Initial products manufactured at the site include high-performance liquid chromatographs and fluidics subassemblies.
“This new center in Singapore allows Solectron to provide medical companies unprecedented outsourcing capabilities and a partner who understands and caters to their needs,” says Marc Onetto, Solectron executive vice president for operations. “Working cooperatively with Singapore’s Economic Development Board, we are helping to attract medical-instrumentation companies to the region. This is another step in our ongoing commitment to meet the needs of our medical customers.”
Solectron, a leading Six Sigma practitioner, is a provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services. It is based in Milpitas, California.
