Six Sigma Improves the Houston Public Library

In an effort to improve its services and patron access, the Houston Public Library turned to Xerox Corp. and Six Sigma. The improvement effort began last year, when Xerox was hired to measure and analyze the operations at four branches of the Houston Public Library. Services analyzed included computer reservations and circulation. Xerox recently presented library officials with a comprehensive report that offers innovative solutions for efficiency gains and customer-service improvements.

“Houston Public Library is excited about the opportunity to work with Xerox Global Services on the lean Six Sigma study to explore strategies for greater organizational effectiveness and efficiencies, and we are pleased that we have engaged them in this progressive partnership,” says Dr. Rhea Brown Lawson, Houston Public Library director.

The Houston Public Library system comprises 36 branches and provides a network of services to the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
