The Dow Chemical Co. recently received an award for leadership in energy management. The award was presented at the 28th-annual Energy Technology Conference, which brought together members of the international industrial energy community. The award recognized Dow for its global focus on energy efficiency and the results of its energy efficiency program, which it manages with Six Sigma.
Between 1994 and 2005, Dow saved approximately $4 billion through energy efficiency efforts, helping to mitigate the effect of rising energy costs. It recently announced a new goal: to reduce by 25 percent its worldwide energy use by 2015.
“Effective energy management is critical to the global competitiveness of any energy-intensive manufacturer,” says John Dearborn, global vice president for energy. “Dow aims to lead by example among other industrial energy consumers. Energy efficiency is a win-win for the environment and the economy.”
