(DMSC: Arlington, TX) -- At the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) 2012 in Chicago, Dimensional Metrology Standards Consortium (DMSC) Inc., a standards developing body for dimensional metrology, successfully demonstrated the exchange of quality data via the emerging Quality Information Framework (QIF) national standard by generating and populating an AS9102 first article inspection form.

Each day of IMTS, held Sept. 10–15, 2012, two standards-enabled interoperability demonstrations were given with products from seven complementary or competing quality measurement software and hardware corporations. This was accomplished through the cooperative use of the QIF XML schema, which is a DMSC specification, with measurement science support from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The demonstrations also implemented the transfer of QMResults files via the Internet to a remote data gathering application, using the MTConnect protocol. MTConnect was developed by The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) for accessing real-time information from computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines and other shop floor devices.
