Manufacturing Technology Orders Up 108.0% in 2011

Although orders dipped from April year-to-date totals

(AMT: McLean, VA) -- The May 2011 U.S. manufacturing technology orders totaled $388.27 million, according to the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association (AMTDA) and The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT). This total, as reported by companies participating in the U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) program, was down 2.6 percent from April but up 121.3 percent when compared with the total of $175.46 million reported for May 2010. With a year-to-date total of $1,984.87 million, 2011 is up 108.0 percent compared with 2010.

companies participating in the USMTO program. Note: To more accurately reflect its content, the U.S. Manufacturing Technology Consumption (USMTC) report has been renamed as the U.S. Manufacturing Technology Orders (USMTO) report.

“The May order numbers confirm our members’ reports of continued strong project levels by manufacturing companies to improve productivity in their factories,” says Peter Borden, AMTDA president. “The 2,000 unit-per-month level signifies a very healthy demand still in place as we head toward the close of the second quarter.”
