Juran Institute Names New Board Member

Peter J. Kolesar is the newest elected member of the Juran Institute’s board of directors. Kolesar, a professor at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, teaches courses in statistics, quality and productivity management. He holds a joint appointment with the university’s School of Engineering & Applied Science.

In management, Kolesar’s primary work is on accelerating the effective implementation of modern quality management methods. He has worked with the top management of Alcoa, American Express, International Paper, Xerox and Church & Dwight. Kolesar has made extensive applications of improvement methods for a wide range of industries throughout the world and conducted a National Science Foundation study of the effectiveness of Six Sigma in U.S. industry.

In the technical field, Kolesar’s development of innovative mathematical models for the efficient location and dispatching of emergency vehicles contributed to the design of New York City’s fire department dispatching system.
