Excellus BlueCross BlueShield recently received Case Management Accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accreditation agency that establishes quality standards for the health care industry. URAC’s standards require insurers to establish a process to assess, plan and implement case management interventions. This assures patients that their information is protected and that health care providers provide dispute resolution and other patient care needs. The standards also govern staff structure and qualifications, quality improvement, information management, oversight of delegated functions, ethics and complaints.
“By applying for and receiving Case Management Accreditation, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield has demonstrated a commitment to quality health care,” says Garry Carneal, URAC president and CEO. “Quality health care is crucial to our nation’s welfare and it’s important to have organizations that are willing to measure themselves against national standards.”
“This is independent affirmation that our case management program provides effective, supportive care management,” says Heidi Rothenhaus, Excellus BCBS vice president of medical benefits management.
