The Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership has helped Drafting Designs become registered to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. Drafting Designs develops and documents many different products in a variety of industries, from marine to aircraft.

“We wanted to become an ISO-certified facility, but we needed the staff to undergo skills improvement training for that to happen,” says David Carson, president of Drafting Designs. “The Florida Manufacturing Extension Partnership assisted us in obtaining an Incumbent Worker Training grant so we could do that. Becoming ISO 9001- and ISO 13485-certified opened many doors for our company and allowed us to grow our production facility.”

The Florida MEP is affiliated with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, part of the U.S. Department of Commerce. Through the MEP program, manufacturers access more than 2,000 business and manufacturing coaches who help them make changes to be more productive, more profitable and more competitive.

The Florida MEP also assisted Drafting Designs with a Time Wise lean assessment that indicated which processes could be improved and then helped make those changes happen and organize the shop floor.
