F-15 Fighter Pilot to Deliver Quality Expo Keynote Address

Successful management is analogous to being a fighter pilot in a combat environment, according to Jim Murphy, an F-15 pilot who will deliver a keynote address at Quality Expo.Murphy is the founder and CEO of Afterburner Inc., a consulting company that uses fighter pilots to teach some of the world’s top organizations the tools and techniques of peak performance. Murphy’s address, “Flawless Execution,” will describe how fighter pilots operate in combat environments and how to apply some of their tactics to daily business challenges. The address is scheduled for April 20 at 9 a.m.

Murphy graduated from the University of Kentucky and subsequently joined the Air National Guard, where he learned to fly the F-15. He has logged more than 1,200 hours as an instructor pilot and has accumulated more than 3,200 hours of flight time in other high-performing jet aircraft. As the 116th Fighter Wing’s Chief of Training for the Georgia Air National Guard, Murphy’s job was to keep 42 combat-trained fighter pilots ready to deploy worldwide within 72 hours. As a combat flight leader, he has flown missions to Central America, Asia, Central Europe and the Middle East.

Through Murphy’s leadership, Afterburner has become one of Inc.
