Community Blood Centers of South Florida Inc. recently implemented a quality effort that uses Pilgrim Software Inc.’s SmartCAPA software. The blood center provides more than 75 percent of the blood used in transfusions in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties, and operates 18 donor centers and 27 bloodmobiles in the region. It will use SmartCAPA software to automate its Web-based CAPA system and significantly reduce its paperwork requirements. SmartCAPA is a nonconformance/customer complaint and deviation management solution. CBCSF has seven collection areas and six departments using it.
“Everyone is concerned about the safety of the blood supply and hence, there’s increased pressure from the regulators for the blood providers to look at the business to ensure that processes and procedures are in place and followed,” says Sharon Edie, director of quality at CBCSF. “We’re live with SmartCAPA and with this solution, we can now evaluate the effectiveness of our quality and compliance.”
