Manipal Hospital of Bangalore, India, recently received that country’s prestigious Golden Peacock National Quality Award. The 15-year-old hospital has 600 beds and is India’s first multi-specialty tertiary care center to be registered to ISO 9001. Additionally, its Manipal Hospital Diagnostic Services unit is the first hospital-based laboratory in the country to be accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratory. “The group has a structured quality initiative that helps in achieving business-specific accreditations, which are above the quality management systems in practice,” says Ramdas Pai, Manipal Education and Medical Group. “These accreditations and certifications are reassurances to patients, consultants and referring laboratories that our services are aligned with the best practices across the globe.”
The award was presented during the World Congress on Total Quality, held in January in Delhi. The award—based on corporate excellence in quality, governance, social responsibility, innovation, training, environmental management, ecological leadership and business leadership—is given annually.
