After discussing in my previous two columns what a laser tracker is and how it is different from other metrology systems, it is appropriate to consider general maintenance. As a ground rule, it’s important to understand that there are many variations of preventive and regular maintenance associated with laser trackers. Some maintenance procedures are directly defined from the manufacturer, while others are common to all laser trackers and considered common-sense measures. Of course, the laser tracker is a precision tool and should be treated as such. The user needs to exercise appropriate care when handling the laser tracker.
