In industrial manufacturing, using measuring instruments to ensure repeatability, reproducibility, and accuracy is imperative to the production process and to the quality and consistency of finished pieces. Repeatability and reproducibility are tracked and maintained through the ongoing measurement and analysis of produced parts—a fairly straightforward process. An accuracy guarantee, however, requires proven traceability from machine to spec to a number of organizations and governing bodies. In establishing and documenting traceability, a standardized chain of calibration must be measured and proven.
