The Princeton (New Jersey) Regional Chamber of Commerce recently named Gregory H. Olsen, Sensors Unlimited Inc.’s chairman of the board, as its Innovator of the Year 2005. The award will be formally presented to Olsen at the organization’s Leadership Awards Dinner on Nov. 30. Olsen was recently confirmed by Space Adventures Ltd. as the world’s third private space explorer and the first space tourist since the Columbia tragedy. He’s scheduled the launch to the International Space Station on Oct. 1 on the Soyuz TMA-7 orbital space flight mission from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. While in flight, Olsen plans to conduct remote sensing and astronomy research projects incorporating Sensors Unlimited’s shortwave infrared imaging technology.

“I’m honored to be named ‘Innovator of the Year 2005’ by the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce and look forward to the November awards dinner upon my return from space,” says Olsen.

Olsen received his Ph.D from the University of Virginia. He co-founded Sensors Unlimited in 1991. The company manufactures photodiodes, focal plane arrays and cameras that image in the shortwave infrared wavelength.
