The Boeing Co. recently ordered 10 Laser Trackers from FARO Technologies Inc. FARO reports that Boeing will use the Laser Tracker Xi units for its rotorcraft facility in Philadelphia to dimensionally control the manufacture, modernization and support of the twin-turbine, tandem-rotor CH-47 Chinook helicopter and tiltrotor V-22 Osprey. The Laser Tracker units will be used by the U.S. Army, National Guard, Navy and several international customers.

The FARO Laser Tracker Xi is a portable 3-D system that uses laser technology to measure large parts, tooling and machinery in a 230-ft. range.

“These new orders follow our earlier successful FARO Laser Tracker installations at Boeing’s various U.S.-based operations, not to mention the numerous FARO CMMs in place at (Boeing’s) many suppliers,” says Simon Raab, FARO CEO.

FARO Technologies, Inc. and its international subsidiaries design, develop and market software and portable, computerized measurement devices. The Boeing Co. is the world’s largest aerospace company. Boeing has two major segments: commercial airplanes and integrated defense systems.
