The series is designed for manufacturers who require flexible, high-precision grinding across internal, external, and out-of-round applications without investing in separate dedicated machine platforms.
The UG Series includes four models—UG 400, UG 630, UG 1000, and UG 1500—with grinding lengths corresponding to 400, 630, 1,000, and 1,500 mm, respectively. The series features multiple grinding wheel configurations tailored to job shops, precision component manufacturers, toolmakers, and production facilities serving automotive, aerospace, and industrial supply chains.

The EMAG UG Series lineup: UG 400, UG 630, UG 1000, and UG 1500 cover grinding lengths from 400 to 1,500 mm.
Direct-drive spindle technology
The grinding head on each UG Series machine is equipped with direct-drive motorized spindles rated at up to 11 kW. The elimination of belt drive removes a primary source of vibration and mechanical power loss in conventional cylindrical grinding systems. Peripheral grinding wheel speed reaches 50 mps.
An automatically swiveling B-axis enables infinitely variable positioning between -15° and +225°, with 0.0001° resolution and ±2 arc seconds positioning repeatability. Swivel time for a 180° repositioning is 8 seconds for all four models.
Workhead, concentricity, and internal grinding
Precision tapered roller bearings in the workhead provide the rigidity required to achieve concentricity accuracy of 0.5 µm on the test workpiece. The workpiece spindle uses direct drive with stepless speed control from 30–800 RPM. A swivel range from 0° to +30° supports cone grinding strategies. High-frequency internal grinding spindles cover a speed range of 20,000–125,000 rpm, with oil-air lubrication on the UG 400, UG 630, and UG 1000.
An optional C-axis workpiece spindle enables out-of-round and thread grinding through synchronized motion between workpiece rotation and grinding spindle feed, requiring the FANUC 31iB Plus control.
Tailstock and dressing
The tailstock uses a precision-mounted quill (60 mm diameter on MK4 taper, 65 mm on UG 1500) with microtaper correction of ±40 µm for concentricity under one micrometer. Manual or hydraulic actuation options are available. Three dressing configurations are supported: a repositionable table-mounted swivel arm dresser, a workpiece spindle dresser system for automated batch production cycles, and dressing tile holders for supplemental or manual dressing.
Control and turnkey capability
The UG Series standard control is the FANUC 0i-TF Plus with dialog-oriented HMI for simplified operation. The FANUC’s global service availability is a practical advantage for U.S.-based manufacturers managing maintenance and spare parts logistics.
EMAG offers turnkey packages for the UG Series, including machine, NC program, grinding tools, coolant, and workholding technology. The customer receives a production-ready solution from a single source.
