This half-day workshop summarizes and explains the key highlights of SSPC PA 2—“Measurement of dry coating thickness with magnetic gages.” Attendees will learn to verify the accuracy of a dry film thickness magnetic gauge; measure the dry film thickness of a coating with Type 1 or Type 2 gauge; and describe and implement the procedure to determine if the film thickness in a given area conforms to the maximum and minimum levels specified. The Protective Coatings Inspector (PCI) program meets the requirements of ASTM D 3276, the IMO Performance Standard for Protective Coatings, and the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) Common Structural Rules (CSR). This half-day exam identifies and awards recognition to individuals who have in-depth knowledge in the principles and practices of inspection of industrial coatings. Students passing the PCI Level 2 exams at 80 percent or higher and meet the prerequisites for PCI Level 3 certification can take the PCI Level 3 certification exam on day seven. A passing grade of 80 percent or higher on the written PCI Level 3 certification exam is required to become an SSPC PCI Level 3-certified coating inspector.
