SSL, a global leader in integrated space technologies, has recently gone through a complete redesign of its quality organization by reinventing its purpose and role in the company. These changes were not only foundational in nature but also required a significant cultural shift by the quality organization and by companywide management. This article summarizes the fundamentals and processes that were used to achieve this level of change.

In the beginning: SSL and quality

SSL delivers advanced systems for communications, exploration, data gathering, and next-generation services within the aerospace industry. Based in the United States, the company designs and manufactures innovative spacecraft and space-related systems with an advanced product line that includes high-power geostationary satellites, state-of-the-art small satellites, and sophisticated robotics and automation solutions for remote operations.

Great article

I have been in quality for 35 years.

What a great analysis of the current state and development of new system using best practices from several industries (SCRUM for example). This is definetly Kaikaku (breakthrough change).

I can't wait to get back to work to apply the concepts.
