Body

(Dart Controls: Zionsville, IN) -- Dart Controls is rolling out its new MicroDrives—microprocessor-based, closed-loop DC SCR drives with integrated, programmable digital display. Ideal for DC motors rated to 2 hp, MicroDrives are available for continuous operation (MD series), or for start/stop or applications requiring rapid drive response time (MD Plus series). Both series feature a programmable display with drive speed information in meaningful engineering units (GPM, FPM, MM:SS, % of Master, etc.).

Each series is available as panel mount or NEMA4 surface mount stand-alone enclosed version. Either series may be configured in three modes: Rate, Time, and Follower. Follower mode allows for two or more motors to operate at speeds in proportion to each other—a common need in blending, batch, and synchronized material feed and handling applications. The logic controller functionality built into the MicroDrives may eliminate the need for a PLC and its custom programming.

For continuous operation environments, the MD Series features an onboard microprocessor with nonvolatile memory coupled with sophisticated internal software for accuracy and control. User-friendly front-panel programming allows users to customize the MD for specific applications. It can be set to display the target speed directly in RPM, FPM, GPM, process time, or any other engineering unit. Programmable parameters include maximum and minimum set speed, alarm output, operating mode (Master or Follower), and input configuration. With unparalleled flexibility and versatility, the MD10 is ideal for many industrial and commercial applications, including baked goods conveyance through an oven and restricting liquid in a continuous flow application.

This flexible microdrive is simple to operate. Just set the desired RPM, rate, or time in the large ½ in. LED display by depressing the “up” and “down” push-buttons on the front panel. Settings can be one digit at a time or fast sweep. With exact and repeatable settings up to a thousandth of a unit, the MD10 will precisely control speed to ±1/2 rpm of set speed, long term. No calibrations of the control are necessary.

For start/stop environments, the MD Plus series offers all of the benefits of the MD series with the addition of a velocity lop PID control algorithm, an isolated 4-20mA process signal follower, and industrial serial communication for easy integration into existing process control systems. The MD Plus series is ideal for start/stop environments or applications that require rapid drive response times, such as metering pumps, proportionate product mixing, filling stations, and others.

All MD and MD Plus models are manufactured by Dart Controls, a leading manufacturer of reliable variable speed motor drives, controls, and accessories for electric motors. All Dart products are 100% made in the U.S., providing significant cost advantages in times of tariffs and uncertainty.
