(Hexagon: Stockholm) -- Hexagon, a global leader in measurement technologies, is supporting one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the world, equipping Skanska with surveying solutions needed to construct Project Rogfast. This 27-kilometer subsea tunnel will be the longest and deepest of its kind.

Running 392 meters below sea level, the tunnel will connect the Norwegian cities of Stavanger, Haugesund, and Bergen, helping to cut travel time by 50% and strengthening economic links in the oil and gas sector. Skanska integrates Hexagon’s geospatial and construction solutions to deliver the project accurately, safely, and sustainably.

Project Rogfast poses extraordinary engineering challenges, including tunneling from both ends to meet within a 5-centimeter margin of error. Even a slight misalignment can lead to significant rework and waste. Hexagon’s portfolio of Leica Geosystems solutions ensures every surveyor, excavator, and drill operator operates with high-confidence accuracy, allowing the project to proceed without interruption.

Hexagon’s technologies are delivering measurable impact across the project by:
• Enabling precise alignment with total stations, GPS, multistations, and laser scanners
• Reducing rework, emissions, and cost through real-time data capture and validation
• Powering safe operations under extreme conditions, 392 meters below sea level

Trond Valleur, Skanska vice president, says, “In a project like this, even a millimeter of misalignment can trigger cascading risks. Hexagon’s technology gives our teams the confidence to move forward with accuracy, efficiency, and safety. That precision, and our shared drive to push boundaries, is what makes this partnership so powerful.”

Burkhard Boeckem, Hexagon CTO, says, “This project is a milestone for infrastructure and a testament to how measurement technologies are reshaping what’s possible. We’re proud to support Skanska with solutions that enable their teams to work smarter and safer with accuracy.”

The tunnel also represents the strength of Skanska and Hexagon’s 30-year partnership, rooted in innovation and shared ambition. Skanska teams use a wide array of Hexagon tools, including the Leica RTC360, Leica MS60 MultiStation, Leica AP20 AutoPole, and Leica TS60, the world’s most accurate total station.

Together, Skanska and Hexagon are shaping the future of infrastructure, combining digital excellence and construction expertise beneath the sea. To learn more about Hexagon’s technologies and watch a film about the Rogfast project, visit here.
