Better farming, Baldrige 2017, closing-loop manufacturing, and turnover at Ford

Published: Tuesday, June 6, 2017 - 12:01

The June 2, 2017, episode of QDL focused on the rites of Spring, from farming improvements through a new drone standard (thanks, ISO) to the annual announcement of Baldrige Award applicants. Plus, we threw you a little manufacturing red meat from Hexagon and Ford. Take a look:

Precision Farming Takes Off

ISO 21384 is a standard in progress to address the specifications, procedures, and processes for unmanned drone aircraft. What’s that got to do with farming? Well, these small craft are perfect for mapping, measuring, and analyzing agricultural fields in a fraction of the time that it would take farmers to do the same work.

2017 Baldrige Award Applications Have Arrived

Every spring, NIST announces the applicants for the nation’s most prestigious mark of excellence, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. For the 2017 award cycle, 24 outstanding organizations have applied for the Baldrige—12 in healthcare, five educational institutions, four nonprofits, and three small businesses.

Interview: Jonathan O’Hare

O’Hare, a technology expert from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, joined us to chat about his latest article and to preview the webinar, “How to Execute Inspection Plans in Closed-Loop Manufacturing,” which we are doing together on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

Tides of Change at Ford Motor Co.

QD’s own Ryan Day wrote this behind-the-scenes look at the recent machinations within Ford’s C-suite. It’s a fascinating tale of disruptive innovation against the backdrop of unit sales and stock marketing pricing. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
