New River Kinematics (NRK) Opens New Metrology Center

New hires come aboard as well as company continues to grow.

Published: Monday, November 16, 2009 - 16:08

New River Kinematics Inc. (NRK) has recently opened a new state-of-the-art facility in Williamsburg, Virginia. The eight acre campus consists of two custom designed buildings that offer 20,000 sq. ft of space. The new location includes 6,000 sq. ft. of laboratory space specifically dedicated to the research and development of NRK’s advanced metrology and production applications including their flagship product SpatialAnalyzer (SA) software.

“This custom facility creates an ideal environment for continuous improvement of our SpatialAnalyzer product,” states NRK co-founder Joe Calkins. “SA is now interfaced with over 100 hardware instruments and our new space will allow for many of the leading portable metrology instruments to be available at all times. We are encouraging all of our partners whose hardware uses SA to use our lab for customer demonstrations and have already received positive responses.”

In addition to their new headquarters, NRK also announced the hiring of two new Applications Engineers - Richard Nelson, an Aerospace industry expert, and Todd Burch with a wealth of metrology expertise in shipbuilding. The company has also hired James Gardner, a metrology industry veteran, to serve as a Sales Executive. Over the past decade, Gardner has been involved in marketing and sales of both metrology hardware and software.

New River Kinematics continues to grow at a rate of over 20 percent a year, with focus in the markets of aerospace, ship building and satellite systems. Since 1994, NRK has applied its software tools to many engineering challenges including robotic simulation and control, coordinate metrology, engineering database management, and molecular modeling.
