API Services Announces Nuclear Industry Partnerships

Published: Thursday, November 7, 2013 - 12:48

(API: Newport News, VA) -- API Services, a subsidiary of metrology provider Automated Precision Inc. (API), announced this month that it has reached partnerships with two design and manufacturing leaders in the nuclear and energy industries. The partnerships are the result of ongoing growth in the nuclear industry and the need of nuclear plants for precision metrology services.

Together with its partners, API Services will continue to strive for excellent customer service for the nuclear and energy sectors. API Services has developed Smart Scanning, a patent-pending technology, that combines laser tracking and scanning instruments with 3D scanning software to conduct comprehensive structural scans in a few hours. The partnerships formed in the industry will allow the end result that all the service companies strive for: excellence and quality service to customers.

Babcock & Wilcox

API Services has established an agreement with Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Operations Group Inc. (B&W NOG) of Lynchburg, Virginia. A subsidiary of The Babcock & Wilcox Co., B&W NOG is a commercial facility that manufactures components for the U.S. government. This facility is the only domestic supplier of research reactor-fuel elements for colleges, universities, and national laboratories. The division's commercial operations include converting or down-blending high-enriched uranium into low-enriched fuel for use in commercial reactors for generating electricity.

“B&W Nuclear Services and API Services are pleased to create our partnership to broaden our depth and capacity to serve the nuclear industry with metrology services that will support major projects and nuclear services,” says Paul Nicholas, API’s sales manager for North America.

Merrick & Co.

API Services also signed an agreement with architectural firm Merrick & Co., which specializes in the out-of-the-ordinary. Their expertise and commitment to comprehensive planning, design, fabrication, and quality standards give customers nuclear solutions that ensure safe, secure, and quality outcomes. From enhancing capacity, increasing efficiency, modernizing technology, and securing facilities, Merrick’s team of trusted experts provides the innovation for customers to realize the greatest possible value.

“As a metrology-based company, API Services knows the importance of providing accurate, efficient, and the latest technology solutions to our customers. Our partnership with Merrick & Co. allows us to provide our customers with service that is both high quality and efficient, which the nuclear industry needs,” says Ron Hicks, president of API Services.
