Learn About Metrology From the Pros

Published: Monday, May 13, 2013 - 11:14

During this week’s World Metrology Day festivities, it is fitting to highlight the Coordinate Metrology Society’s longstanding dedication to education and the advancement of the field of 3D portable metrology. Each year, their Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference is held in a different city in the United States. This year, the Society will open their doors for a special Career Fair on Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Exhibition Hall at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, in San Diego. Admission to the CMSC Metrology Career Fair is free.

This event is designed to generate interest in the field of metrology—the science of measurement—and to engage and educate students, young engineers, measurement novices and experts, and industrial professionals looking for a new career path. Demand for metrologists continues to skyrocket based on a graying workforce and the proliferation of measurement technology being used in industries such as aerospace, power generation, automotive, shipbuilding, and more. The Career Fair is ideal for those with backgrounds in engineering, manufacturing, and surveying.

Attendees are encouraged to bring resumes, walk the exhibition floor, and ask questions about the use of metrology in inspection, alignment, and other manufacturing and scientific applications. In the CMSC Exhibitor Hall, Career Fair visitors will be able to see portable measurement technology, including industrial photogrammetry solutions, laser trackers, laser radars, articulating arms, GPS systems, laser scanners, laser projection systems, theodolites, and much more.

Career Fair guests will have the opportunity to meet more than 40 OEMs, software developers, and service providers of close-tolerance industrial coordinate measurement and technology, including Nikon Metrology, FARO Technologies, and Hexagon Metrology. The organization’s quarterly market research shows that more than half of these companies have had job openings in 2013, a trend that is expected to continue into the foreseeable future.

To RSVP for the Career Fair or to receive more information, please email: publicrelations@cmsc.org, or call 860-399-1147. Career Fair visitors must check in at the Conference Registration Desk to gain entry.
