(Phillips Precision’s Products Division: Boylston, MA) -- Phillips Precision announces its Sturdy Lever Clamp as part of the Inspection Arsenal, the first universal fixturing system providing a complete set of tools for all inspections. 

The heavy-duty Sturdy Lever cantilevered clamp is ideal for added force and for larger parts. The lever tightens with a thumb screw, rather than downward force, which makes this clamp less likely to mar the part. The clamp generates up to 30 pounds of force and can be adjusted to hold at a steep angle if needed. It works on the same post as Phillip Precision’s Trigger-Finger hold-down. The post is steel, and the clamp lever is black-anodized aluminum (thumb-screw included). The Sturdy Lever clamp can be ordered with a ¼–20 or M6 threaded post. It assembles quickly and self-aligns/levels to the correct starting point.

This unique vise is specifically designed to hold delicate round parts without distortion and allow maximum back lighting for vision inspection (also works well for CMM inspection). Designed to replace bulky, traditional three-jaw chucks that limit access and can distort parts. The Spider Vise is designed to hold parts from 1.18 in. to 6 in. in diameter. Each leg has adjustable pins with o-rings to provide grip when part is in place. Spider-Vise is black anodized aluminum sitting on a ¾ in. x 2 in. steel stand-off secured by a flathead screw. Add taller stand-offs to gain more height when necessary. Available with ¼-20 and M6 mounting thread.

Methods Machine Tool Sales (MMTS) of Sudbury, Massachusetts, is the New England distributor and sole training center for Carl Zeiss inspection equipment. Customers can train in MMTS’s state-of-the art lab or send examples of problem parts to the lab for help with their inspection solutions.

To introduce trainees to the most modern and lean approach to fixturing, the MMTS training team turned to quick-swap fixture plates and workholding. These allow for smoother transitions during contract inspections and when automating engineered turnkey solutions.

“We are constantly shuffling between CMM training classes, customer demos, and turnkey inspections,” says Tom Oakes, a quality applications engineer at Zeiss. “The quick-swap features of Loc-N-Load and Open-Sight Fixture Systems from Inspection Arsenal make moving between these setups quite simple and efficient.”

For real-world examples during the training classes, a variety of sample parts were set up on several Loc-N-Load fixture plates. This pallet-style fixture system allows trainees to quickly and easily load and unload parts onto the coordinate measuring machine (CMM). To automate stylus requalification, reference spheres were set up on a dedicated quick-swap plate.

Work-holding kits can be ordered separately or combined with two new discounted bundles. Open-Sight Vision Fixture Systems include the work-holding kit and a choice between two sizes of docking rails and fixture plates: a 6-in. docking rail, a 6 in. x 6 in. fixture plate, and a 30-piece work-holding kit; or a 12-in. docking rail, a 12 in. x 8 in. fixture plate, plus a 30-piece work holding kit.

Designed to take advantage of the air at your CMM, the soft jaws of the Rapid-Loc vise can be customized to hold most parts. Regulated air pressure can produce just enough clamping force to hold delicate parts or as much as 150 lbs if needed. Mount Rapid-Loc vises on Inspection Arsenal Loc-N-Load quick-swap fixture plates for fast, accurate, and highly repeatable setups that help break inspection bottlenecks. Rapid-Loc can also be mounted on existing CMM breadboards.

The black anodized, aluminum Rapid-Loc pneumatic vise is currently available with a 2.5 in x 3.5 in. footprint, .06 in. travel, 150-lbs of force, and comes with a set of machinable aluminum soft jaws. Secure Rapid-Loc with standard or metric thread screws.

A smaller vise is under development and will be released for production later this spring.

(Phillips Precision: Boylston, MA) --  Phillips Precision unveiled a new 12-in. docking rail as part of the Inspection Arsenal Loc-N-Load CMM fixture system at Quality Expo in Dallas. The new rail is designed to fit smaller coordinate measuring machines (CMM) while also satisfying users of larger CMMs wanting to dedicate only a portion of the granite for fast-swap fixtures. The smaller rail accepts all of the side interlocking Loc-N-Load CMM fixture plates.

Also added is a simple, low-cost adapter plate so inspectors can easily adopt the lean techniques of the Loc-N-Load CMM fixture system. The new adapter plate simply adds the Loc-N-Load signature shape to existing fixtures, which can then be secured to a Loc-N-Load docking rail for fast, repeatable setups.
