(ScripNet: Las Vegas) - To ease the availability of prescription medications to injured workers, ScripNet, a pharmacy benefits manager, is saving time and money with its innovative Call Ahead Program.

“We launched the Call Ahead Program over a year ago to make it easier on the injured worker, to be more efficient and cost effective for our contracted pharmacies, and to manage expenses for our insurance carrier customers,” says Dennis Sponer, president and CEO of ScripNet.

The program is designed to let injured workers know the closest locations to get their medications, preapprove the correct prescriptions, and preregister to reduce delays at in-network pharmacies.

By eliminating questions and delays at the pharmacy, workers are also more likely to get the correct medications within an approved formulary, which is overseen by ScripNet’s in-house pharmacist.

An automated message is delivered to the pharmacy on behalf of the employer and insurance carrier. The pharmacy is then able to cut time and cost with a predetermination of the appropriate prescription, and to ensure that the workers’ compensation prescriptions are paid. The new system also guards against abuse, including too many refills and filling the same prescription at multiple pharmacies.
