Parsec Automation Corp. has enhanced the 4.04 version of its TrackSYS software to better serve pharmaceutical and medical device–industry users. The company reports that many pharmaceutical and medical-device makers believe that their plants have an operating efficiency in the 60-70 percent range, based on traditional measurement methods. By using the comprehensive performance-measurement capabilities in TrakSYS 4.04—which is overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) software—they often find they’re operating at 20–40 percent of capacity, says Parsec.
“There is a tremendous multiplying effect associated between OEE improvement and profit improvement,” says Scott Klages, Parsec vice president. “For example, for a line or process staring with an OEE of 40 percent, a four-point gain in OEE provides a 10-percent boost in output per shift, and this can translate into a 50-percent profitability gain for that particular product line.”
