The U.S. Army recently announced that 41 students from its Sustaining Base Leadership Management program successfully completed lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification. The program is part of the Army Management Staff College, a 12-week program that focuses on executive-level leadership, management and decision-making.

The Army uses lean and Six Sigma in many of its operations, and has partnered with George Group Consulting LLC to deliver the necessary training at the Army Management Staff College. It consisted of a two-day workshop with four instructors, and focused primarily on lean Six Sigma principles and numerous hands-on Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control simulations.

“Lean Six Sigma is a big push for the Army,” says Al Majewski, a graduate of the program. “Our organization is a white-collar organization, but we have many things that we can streamline to be more efficient and effective. That’s why I wanted to be involved in this educational opportunity, to learn more about it. I definitely plan on using this to streamline our processes and get our metrics in place.”
