Body
The American Society for Quality recently awarded Milwaukee County a $5,000 grant to implement a pilot Six Sigma program. The grant was provided through ASQ’s Community Good Works Program, which provides money and expertise to nonprofit organizations that want to improve their operations through quality management. The grant money will be used to buy software to statistically track the progress of the county’s Six Sigma effort.

“We feel it is smart business for Milwaukee County to leverage those tools which have been successful in the private sector to help us increase our efficiency, effectiveness and revenues,” says Scott Walker, Milwaukee County executive.

Along with ASQ, Milwaukee County will partner with the Business Excellence Consortium (BEC) through the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). BEC member Steven Fleming, who was trained in Six Sigma at General Electric when Jack Welch adopted it, will provide the training. Participants will be able to use the facilities and infrastructure at MSOE at no charge to the county.
