Body
National Technical Systems Inc.’s Calgary division recently started offering wireless-device testing to FCC standards and European Radio & Telecommunications Terminal Equipment Directive (R&TTE). Original equipment manufacturers require certification for wireless products such as cellular base stations, cell phones, cordless phones, wireless routers and surveillance cameras, and wireless plug-in cards for laptops. NTS’s test facilities in Calgary include a radio lab and indoor ten-meter ambient-free chamber with testing capabilities up to 110GHz. Its wireless-device testing services include real-time Internet data sharing for remote test monitoring.

“The complexity of testing of wireless devices increases constantly as the airwaves become saturated with communication signals,” says Jim Press, director of the facility. “At the same time, the reliability of wireless-device communication becomes critical as customers become more and more dependent on them.”
