Secretary of the Army Francis J. Harvey recently announced three recipients of the Army Performance Excellence Awards. The winners are: the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey (Gold Award); Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia (Silver Award); and the Minnesota National Guard (Bronze Award).

The Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) is a leader in the U.S. Army’s lean Six Sigma effort. The Performance Excellence Award was established in 2004 to recognize business transformation and continuous improvement efforts within the Army.

“The Army is creating a culture of continuous measurable improvement that eliminates non-value-added activity and improves quality and responsiveness for soldiers and missions of Army families,” says Harvey. “The three organizations we are recognizing today can be extremely proud of their contributions toward business transformation.”

ARDEC is a subordinate organization to the Army’s Research, Development and Engineering Command. It has 2,500 employees and was recognized for its leadership, strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement analyses, and knowledge management.
