The IT service-management profession has taken the leap into the world of standardization. ISO/IEC 20000:2005, Information technology service management, aligns and replaces BS 15000, the British standard that has applied to the IT profession. It’s been issued in two parts: part one outlines the specification for service management, while part two describes best practices and codes of practice for the field. Part two also gives guidance and assistance to internal auditors and service providers preparing for ISO/IEC 20000:2005 registration.

“The launch of ISO 20000 is an extremely exciting development,” says Gary Pearsons, BSI Management Systems president. “Now there is a single, internationally recognized, auditable standard for IT service management. The successful delivery of IT services demonstrates to clients and stakeholders that there is an effective management system in place.”

BSI Management Systems is accredited to provide auditing services to the new standard. For more information, visit www.bsiamericas.com.
