Quality industry professionals have a new opportunity of learning the secrets of lasting success through a new book that compares Toyota Motor Co.’s fabled management practices to DNA that passes down as “genes” to its plants and managers. Inside the Mind of Toyota—Management Principles for Enduring Growth (Productivity Press, 2006), by Satoshi Hino, notes that while many manufacturers have attempted to imitate the Toyota Production System and lean principles, few have gained significant improvement because they lack the fundamental understanding of Toyota’s broader management approach.

Hino has 30 years of experience in the auto industry and provides a fresh and detailed analysis of Toyota’s essential management system. The book clarifies the mechanisms used to transmit Toyota’s intergenerational success while giving a historical perspective on the structural anatomy of Toyota’s management foundation. It also provides analyses emphasizing research, product planning, design and development.

Hino is a professor at Hiroshima University and spent more than 20 years researching the book. For more information, visit www.productivitypress.com.
