The Automotive Industry Action Group recently released a guideline to help improve computer-aided design quality in the global automotive industry. The 203-page guideline, “D-19: SASIG-Product Data Quality for the Global Automotive Industry,” describes the nature of product data and situations that can affect data quality, including data loss and the re-keying of data. It also offers suggestions for measuring, correcting or adjusting data.  Poor data quality can cause problems for automotive suppliers during every state of the product development process. When mistakes or gaps in data aren’t found early, they can lead to increased costs and delays. Additional cost and work can be avoided by ensuring that high-quality data is used and exchanged efficiently.
“Engineering data quality is a significant problem in the global automotive supply chain,” says Linda R. Plawecki, acting executive director of AIAG. “It was a challenging issue for the industry to address at a global level, but through the collaboration of OEMs, suppliers and other automotive organizations around the world, we now have a guideline that provides the most effective and broadly applicable solution to ensure the integrity of engineering data.”
