Quality Digest: What is Octave, and how will it empower workers and customers?
Vick Vaishnavi: Octave is the newly formed company that will be spun off from Hexagon AB (pending shareholder approval). It joins together key Hexagon divisions, including Asset Lifecycle Intelligence, Safety Infrastructure & Geospatial, ETQ, Bricsys, and Projectmates.
The new integrated brand’s mission is to unleash intelligence at scale for industrial environments. Octave provides software that helps organizations better understand and manage the environments in which they design, build, operate, and protect their assets, people, and critical infrastructure. It delivers context-aware intelligence that strengthens decision-making, reduces risk, and improves the quality, performance, and safety of customer operations. In essence, the goal of Octave is to build a seamless digital thread across design, build, operate, and maintain.
QD: Who will benefit most from Octave, and in which ways?
Vaishnavi: The goal of Octave is to connect data, events, and workflows across industrial environments and apply context-aware intelligence to help customers understand what is happening, what may happen next, and how actions in one area affect conditions in another. By providing a clearer picture of current and emerging conditions, it will help optimize the performance and reliability of the systems that teams depend on so they can act more quickly and reduce risk.
QD: What final steps must be taken to ensure that the Octave spinoff has a proper launch?
Vaishnavi: The last step is for shareholder approval.
QD: How does it support Hexagon’s mission?
Vaishnavi: Once the spinoff is complete, Octave will be a fully independent company, separate from Hexagon AB. However, there will remain a partnership-level relationship between the organizations after the spinoff is official.
QD: How does Octave work to foster improvement within systems, communication, engineering tasks, regulatory compliance, and training?
Vaishnavi: As organizations face increasing operational complexity, rising data volumes, and tighter performance requirements, demand continues to grow for software that can provide context-aware intelligence and support more informed, timely decision-making.
We serve diverse markets, such as automotive, aerospace, life sciences, electronics, food and beverage, and other manufacturing markets, as well as power generation and utilities, data centers, heavy construction, process industries, public safety, transportation networks, and other environments where reliability, safety, and coordinated operations are essential.
QD: How will Octave’s platform leverage AI capabilities to release intelligence at scale?
Vaishnavi: AI capabilities within the Octave solutions are focused on practical automation embedded in everyday workflows in the most immediately useful areas. These capabilities help automate routine tasks, predict equipment failures, and detect anomalies across the design-to-build-to-operate-to-protect life cycle. AI also is used to highlight conditions that may require attention, and support teams in prioritizing preventive actions based on identified risk and performance patterns.
As we continue to develop and acquire new capabilities, we seek to integrate and connect these capabilities to enhance the aggregate value of our solutions for customers via design-first development principles guided by real user needs.
QD: What role will quality play in Octave’s mission?
Vaishnavi: Octave provides software that supports the full arc of designing, building, operating, and securing complex work environments. This continuity helps organizations maintain consistent information and intelligence across different teams and phases of workflows, improving coordination and reducing the risk of errors and delays or rework.
Automated quality is central to all of the operations, and Octave Reliance quality management system (QMS)—formerly ETQ Reliance—will play a key role in helping customers leverage the solution to improve product and workflow quality, regulatory compliance, supply chain relationships, and faster time to market.
