T he smartphone’s honeymoon has officially ended. Attractive features that once dazzled consumers are now considered a staple of everyday life, as well as an integral part of users’ smartphone experience, which can add up to hours of use every day. Mobile app developers face fierce competition in the marketplace along with increased scrutiny from their consumer base. Today’s population is much less forgiving when it comes to even the smallest blemishes in their technological experience.

The relatively young field of mobile app development has made software development accessible to even novice, unfunded programmers, who can now write programs for more standardized platforms than their counterparts from the pre-smartphone era. The barriers to entry have been lowered, welcoming an abundance of skilled competitors. And although greater competition brings greater innovation, it also allows for pickier consumers.
