With the 30th anniversary of the Coordinate Metrology Systems Conference (CMSC) around the corner, I am happy to celebrate World Metrology Week with you. This year’s conference will be held in North Charleston, South Carolina, from July 21–25, 2014. Charleston is the oldest and second-largest city in South Carolina. Known for its well-preserved architecture, rich history, delicious food, and southern hospitality, Charleston seems like an ideal location for our beloved conference.

Among the palm trees and palmetto bugs lives the expansive Boeing plant. The plant is home to the newest 787 Dreamliner final assembly and delivery facility. The 1.2 million sq ft facility was selected in 2009 as the new Boeing site. The facility fabricates, assembles, and installs systems for aft (rear) fuselage sections of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and joins and integrates midbody fuselage sections. On Friday, April 25, a tour of the North Charleston Boeing facility will be sponsored by Nikon Metrology and offered to all conference attendees. Please take the time to visit this rapidly growing site. After the tour, guests will be able to see Charleston’s historic sites on a boat tour around downtown Charleston.
