(L.S. Starrett Co.: Athol, MA) -- The L.S. Starrett Co. has developed a new line of AccuPlug bore gages. The AccuPlug consists of interchangeable indicators, handles, plugs, extensions and depth stops for a custom built bore gage built specifically for your application needs.

The AccuPlug line is designed to operate faster with unmatched measuring accuracy and provide superb repeatability, especially in harsh shop-floor environments.  The AccuPlug’s advanced handheld ergonomics and ingenious mechanical/electronic system make it the easiest-to-operate Starrett bore gauging system to date. The flexibility of the AccuPlug bore gages means that they can be fitted with easy-to-read electronic indicators (ideal for automatic data collection) and conventional analogue indicators.

These gages are generally used in production departments (rather than quality labs) in the automotive and aerospace industries for applications where the same diameter needs to be measured repeatedly and accurately to detect dimensional deviations and shape defects.

The plug is inserted into the bore to be measured and the reading can be observed on the indicator without the need for extracting anvils. This is much quicker than measuring with three-point gages and more accurate as well, because there is very little travel of the contacts. Because these are two-point measuring instruments, they can also be used to measure ovality.
